After hearing that I had been accepted into the Literary Mix Tapes 1989, I immediately started googling like a crazy woman – Wiki’s 1989 timeline of historical events was my first stop and it completely overwhelmed me. I mean, what was it about that year?? I have a big interest in history and link that to my socialist ideals, the absolute glut of political and military uprisings and overthrows, was like a starving chocoholic stumbling into Willy Wonkers factory. That said, I started thinking along the lines of something politically and socially revolutionary in theme. I remember saying to my hubby how cool it would be if I could have chosen my prompt, as Martika’s Toy Soldiers (released in 1989) would have been perfect … so how freakish was it when Jodi random-hatted me my prompt of exactly that? I’m thinking there’s karma at work here …
I am a mother, partner, writer and reader. I also have a busy but enjoyable nine-to-five.
I write mostly slice-of-life, urban realism and a little bit of speculative fiction. I have a story published in Eighty Nine - a speculative fiction anthology published by Literary Mix Tapes (2011). I have also contributed stories to the Tiny Dancer and Deck The Halls anthologies (to be published by LMT in 2012).
In my spare time I enjoy slow walks along the toilet paper aisle of Coles, BBQ's in the sunshine, reading entire days away and ambushing unsuspecting flora and fauna with my trusty Nikon D80.
P.S. I have an almost encyclopeadic knowledge of Monty Python quotes and am not afraid to use them. Be warned.
